The pigskin texture you see in photo is actually a faceplate the actual controller is black mate finish. When purchased for grandson this also came with an offer to redeem a favorite team faceplate free of charge can't remember the company it was redeemed with but he got a Denver Broncos face plate which he rally likes better, it has a smooth texture to it and easier on his hands. Not sure if offer still exists but you might check also had the option to buy additional team faceplates for I believe $15.00 shipping was included so there was actually no charge hope this was helpful
