• no you do not need headphones but you can use them if each screen is showing different movies so one doesn't disturb the other

• They have great sound on their on without headphones but if you have two kiddos and they are watching two different movies and not the same one you may want them to wear headphones for your sanity. Hearing two different movies side by side is nerve racking on a long trip!

• There was a built-in speaker that allows you to listen without headphones if you want and the volume is pretty good
