Hi Cindy, I know what you mean about the DVD/CD player making a motor noise when your playing a CD or watching a movie. Most of them out there do. But the Philips 9" DVD'CD player does not. There are very few manufactures of these units anymore for some reason. And all of them are of poor quality. Except for the Philips. I tried three other brands and I returned all three of the pieces of junk. But I have been extremely pleased with the Philips. Hopefully someday Sony and Samsung will come out with a unit. But for now go with the Philips. But you will have to buy an external speaker to get a decent sound. The built in speakers are of very poor quality and the volume is very poor to. You can go to Best Buy or online and spend around thirty to sixty dollars and buy a rechargeable mini speaker that has a 3.5mm audio jack with it. These little speakers are powerful. I paid fifty seven dollars for mine online and it sounds as good as my sisters $199.00 Bose mini speaker. Just make sure that the speaker comes with the 3.5mm line jack, and the charger to charge up the battery. Many do not. They want you to buy the charger extra which I say No! And you can use the power cord charger that comes with the Philips to run it on a regular electrical outlet. That's how I mainly use mine. Because I use it sometimes all day. And when fully charged you get about 5 to 6 hours of runtime from just the battery. The battery drains faster watching a movie than it does playing a music CD. I'm going to recommend a mini speaker to you that is outstanding. It's the one that I bought and you won't be disappointed. And it comes with the 3.5mm line jack, case, charger, owners guide, and you can even sync it with your smart phone if you have one. It's Bluetooth compatible, and I believe after it is fully charged up you can get around 16 hours of speaker time before the next charge. There's a place below this area where Best Buy is kind enough to allow another product recommendation. I hope I've helped. Mine is the black box shaped one.
I would recommend:
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My player is very quiet. The sound quality is very good and the volume is adequate for most situations. I keep earbuds close by just in case.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. We used three of these for three granddaughters on a long trip and we never heard the DVD spinning. They each used earbuds.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.
