The Phillips portable DVD player has 5 hrs of run time rather than Insignia's 2-1/2 hrs of run time. I can enjoy my favorite DVD(s) without having to recharge often. Love the unit!

    Mounting Pouch has poorly designed

My main problem is the mounting pouch for the DVD player. When I first mounted it as pictured on the box and in the instructions, it was bottom heavy and the corners would fall out of the corner straps that secured it in place. In one incident I had to brake fast and the entire player fell out of the pouch and nearly hit my daughter sitting in the back seat. Also in this position, the bottom of the DVD player hits my daughters feet where it gets accidently kicked. This is a problem is all the cars it has been in, eg. Toyota Camry, Toyota Tacoma, Chevy HHR, Honda Civic. After the incident of it falling off, I had to place the player in a complete vertical position in order for it to stay in place. Since the vertical position puts more stress on the material of the pouch, my pouch ripped within days at the seams. It's ripped on both sides and I haven't even had it for two months. It also has no place to put the controller. When I'm moving the player from car to car as needed, I often forget it in the console making the probability of losing it higher than if it were to stay in a designated place on the pouch.

The best quality for a portable DVD/CD Player

I've had this Philips 9" widescreen LCD portable DVD/CD player for over a month now. I had searched for two months for this type unit, but the big manufactures like Samsung and Sony just don't make them for some reason. I read many reviews and going by units in stock, the Philips had the best quality, features, battery life, remote and screen for a good picture. I use it almost daily for my large collection of Christian music and teaching CD's & DVD"s. I have played it for four to five hours non stop and I have not had any problem. I would have rated it 5 stars, but the tiny speakers & volume are very poor. So I just purchased a small cheap rechargeable speaker that I could plug into the 3.5 audio jack port. WOW ! what a difference. I also like the screen being on a solid hinge that is almost the full width of the screen. Some of the other manufactures go cheap and make their screen swivel. To me that's a poor design, not very strong, and every time you swivel that screen around your just bending and breaking the tiny power wire that powers the screen. A solid hinged screen is stronger, a better design, and will last so much longer. I also like the way the manufacture arranged the buttons on the touchpad. There very user friendly. But I also use the remote quite a bit to. I'm thinking about buying another one to have when I ware this one out I like it so much. Even the feel of the plastic body and the keys you can feel the quality. The others that I looked at were just plain cheap and poorly made. This Philips even has a good weight to it, and the non slip/scratch silicone pads on the bottom are of a high quality also. It stays where you place it. I am very picky. I say compared to the other manufactures of portable DVD/CD players I don't think you'll be disappointed with the Philips. Oh, and it also comes with a case. That was a pleasant surprise.

I purchased this device for a car trip recently. It was easy plug and play. Easy menu to understand. And came with a small remote control. I thought the sound without the headset plugged in worked very well and it has a really clear picture. I did not notice the device sounds like other May have said (spinning disc). I would recommend this device based on my own good experience

We purchased this for our recent beach vacation, which was a 14-hour car ride each way. My 5 year old son loved having something to keep himself occupied the whole ride. It wasn't used the entire car ride, but the battery life seems super long. We did not have to plug it in to charge the battery at any point in the trip. It wasn't used once we reached our destination, but one full charge of the battery lasted for the drive to the beach and back. The picture and sound were very clear. The main complaint my son had was that he wished the volume could go a little louder, to drown out the sounds of the radio and the hum of the road. My husband and I could hear his movie clearly from the front seat so I'm sure the volume issue was just his preference. The only other issue we had was that my son changed the language setting at some point so it took me some time to figure out how to get it back to English, but I'm sure if the manual would have been easily accessible in the car, I would have figured it out sooner. We weren't able to really use the case/cover that came with the DVD player because it seemed a little too big. Part of the case that wrapped around the top of the screen overlapped it a little, so if the case was left on, about 1/2" of the top of the screen was partially covered, as that part of the case was mesh-like. We used it without the case and it never got too warm or hot to the touch. Overall, we are very happy with the product!

This portable dvd player was purchased for a long road trip. My daughter is 10 yrs old & this was for her to use in the car & for her & her friends to watch movies in her room. Weight wise is was perfect to carry in a back pack to & from hotels. Great lap size for personal use. At our local Best Buy this product was only sold in white. Which was fine for my daughter. Though I would imagine w/ a younger child or a messy one, this would need to be cleaned or covered. Battery wise, it was perfect to get a full length movie including watching extras & bonus features. With proper cords, plug into your car for unlimited viewing pleasure. Picture quality was great for the price. Please note this DVD player , will NOT play blue-rays.

Good portable DVD for long trips

I bought this portable DVD for my son to watch movies during an almost 8 hour car ride. I checked reviews on both Amazon and Best Buy and it had mostly positive reviews. It also had some of the longest battery life of all the portable DVDs I researched, for the cost. It easily eclipsed 5 hours during the trip. Screen size is good and picture quality is good. It comes with a remote and a rather cheap looking case/mount for the back of the driver or passenger seat. It still got the job done but when mounted, it covers some of the buttons on the sides of the device and the jacks and volume wheel. You also can't change DVDs easily with the mesh from the mount in place to hold it in properly. Overall, this is a great product for the price and it comes with the remote, case/mount, charge cable and cigarette lighter adapter. It will get more than 5 hours play time on a full charge, which was the deciding factor for me, and worth the extra cost over competitors.

I use my Philips DVD/CD player nearly every day, to play both DVD's and CD's. The unit is attractive, sturdy, reliable, and easy to use. I keep it out and handy at all times. It charges easily, and plays reliably without being plugged in. I do wish from time to time that it would have fuller volume, but that has never been a major problem.

Bought this DVD player based on the reviews and haven't been disappointed. I've found that there are often tasks that just don't need my full attention ... exercising, washing dishes and cleaning counters, chopping veggies and waiting for items to bake, or sorting and folding clothes, for example. There are often movies or television series on DVD that don't require my full attention, especially if I just want to experience them again. For me, this DVD player is the perfect addition to those tasks. The DVD player is exceptionally easy to carry from task to task, small enough to fit in spots or on shelves where I can easily see it, and it's not so expensive that I worry about accidentally splashing a few drops of water on it. The battery stays charged for a nice, long time.

When I went into our local Best Buy there were two different portable dvd players to choose from. After doing some quick review searching, we opted for this one. And I am so glad we did. It was our first family vacation flying.... actually 4 planes total with a layover each way. Our son was a little over 2 y/o and this definitely held his attention. It is very easy to use, and the picture looks great. Sounds wasn't bad either. My son won't use headphones, and we were about 4 rows behind the wing. Could hear it loud and clear. Battery life is good too. First flight was almost 4 hours, layover, then a 70 min flight home. It ran the entire time we were in flight!

This DVD player fits our need pretty good. It has a good clear picture. The sound is good. It is small and portable. Only problem is the remote is difficult to see the markings on the buttons. Would have been better if the writing on the remote was a contrast to the remote color or back lite. It also should have a volume control button on the remote

I purchased this for my grandmother while she was bed ridden so she can watch movies. I used it also to entertain a 5 year old. Needless to say, this product is easy to use and the picture quality for something so small is great. Only thing, I am not crazy about is the cover and that's why I give it 4 stars instead of 5.

After our old portable DVD player died, I was weary to buy another one. The Phillips DVD player is more durable than the last one we had, and my daughter (who has special needs) is pretty rough with it. It doesn't stop play or skip when being moved, which our previous one did. It comes with both a wall charger and a car charger, and the battery provides 5 hours of play. It also comes with a cloth holder that can be attached to a car head rest. Overall, it is a great purchase and more than met our expectations.
