*Essentially* yes. I don't know the specifics of when it is shipped region free or when it is shipped region specific, but you can change region/make it region free with the following steps: 1. Turn on player and open disc tray 2. Wait till 'Open' appears on screen, then type 9653 on remote 3. Use up/down buttons to reach REGION option and press OK 4. Use up/down buttons to reach TEST0 option and press OK 5. Press setup button to exit
