One per box. They screw into a standard light socket in a recessed lighting fixture. There are two sizes, so be sure to get the one for your fixture (4" model and 5"/6" model).

There's one light per box. As for your question of them being universal, for fitment they have tabs on the sides that adjust to the can size. As long as your cans are 5-6" then it will fit any range in between. As for the plug, it takes a standard light socket plug, just like the ones you would find in a lamp, technically this is E26. The plug from the E26 adapter to the light is proprietary. In some of my cans, however, there was no E26 socket and the plug didn't work with the Phillips plug. We just cut the adapters off, spliced the two together and it works fine. So in every sense, they are fairly universal.
