These are for new installs ie run new wire cut 6in hole and install. Just put in 6 of them they are easy to install if you are handy and can get wire to them. They are not a replacement for currently installed can lights. Hue makes a retrofit can light replacement as well. They also come with their own junction box.

Neither one. It’s made to fit without any j box or recessed can at all. Just snaps into the pre cut hole with spring clips. I recommend using disconnect-able wire terminals or good quality wire nuts for future removal or replacement.
