Not exactly. The HDMI runs through the HUE SYNC box, which analyzes what will be the image on your screen and/or the audio, then tells the lights what to do. The lights need the Sync box to align with the content. It’s a very cool system. Works best if you can add some hue BR 30 lights (or recessed lights) in the ceiling to go along with the light bars. Also I found using high speed hdmi cables is key. The hdmi included with the sync didn’t really cut it.
