This means you can connect you Blu Ray player, Satellite, or Game console to the receiver via HDMI and the receiver channels the same resolution video signal back out and into the TV. You'll notice on the back of the receiver there are multiple HDMI inputs for devices and 1 HDMI output for the TV. It's meant to streamline your device sound options. So essentially, The video signal is "Passing Through" the receiver to the TV. Hope that helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Older receivers did not allow for 4K or 3D. So if you wanted to watch your new 4K 3D tv, you would have to connect your tv directly to your source ie, DVD player, apple tv, fire stick, netflix, etc. and not be able to listen to those sources through your nice surround system. Now, receivers like this Pioneer, allow you to connect your sources to your tv through the receiver and allow your 4K and 3D to "pass through" the receiver in order to add great sound along with your ability to view the 4K 3D programming.
