I was told by the pioneer technicians that 6 Ohm speakers are ideal and 8 OHM may work but is pushing it. I have all 6 OHM, Bowers and Wilkins 7.2 Channel system. (2) Floor Standing (2) Book Shelf, (2) M-1 satellite for height, (1) center channel and a 10" B&W sub. All play excellent at about -30 volume loud and clear with plenty of power. I would say at about -20-15 (0 being the max and -80 being the min), distortion kicks in, your ears hurt and room shakes. The 501 does have some decent power. It is ideal to get an NRG cable to power the system good. using the stock cable is like stepping on a water hose.
