“I was wondering if this av receiver would be able to handle the bowers and wilkins 685 s2 bookshelf speakers, or would I have to purchase the 302 instead? I currently own the 102 but am looking at getting those bookshelves. Using it for movies and gaming.”

Yes, you can connect just about any speaker on this earth to any receiver on this earth. A friend of mine connected a pair of GIANT stage speakers to his older Kenwood receiver; he just had to add phono plugs to the ends of the speaker wires that connect to the speakers!
