“Can the PL990 be paired with powered speakers and no receiver or amp?”

• It can be paired with self amplifying speakers. This actually is being done a lot these days with people who just want to play records. As an example, look at the Edifier R1180T powered books shelf speakers. The problem with self powered speakers is that most cannot be used as regular speakers later.
