A:Answer Bob, I have found that the occasional muffled sound or distance is not related to the headset, rather the radio on the phone. I use a Samsung Galaxy and if I have a lot going on with the radio (WiFi connected, as well as checking or sending email, and running an app like maps or something) it's just interference to the Bluetooth radio. Happens with many phones. I have found the iphone to have the best ability to fix this, but it still happens on that as well. Cheaper phones tend to have more problems. All in all, I don't think this will be any better with any other headset.
