A:Answer Yes, it does require an tablet. Can be android or Ipad. Based on my experience, the newer the tablet, the better as the app is process heavy. The Globe is just a piece of plastic. No battery or anything required. In low light, it will make the task of scanning the Globe very frustrating. FYI, several countries are missing. I returned mine cause of that.
