“If you buy the physical PS4 disc and upgrade it to PS5, can you still use the ‘upgraded disc’ on PS4 if you have both PS4 and PS5 consoles? Or will it only work on PS5 once it is upgraded? Not sure how the upgrade works.”

According to Ubisoft's PS4 -> PS5 upgrade faq, Yes. You'll be able to play on either console but you'll need to have the disc in to play. "ONCE AN ELIGIBLE PLAYSTATION 4 GAME HAS BEEN UPGRADED TO PLAYSTATION 5, CAN I PLAY IT ON PLAYSTATION 4 STILL? Yes. If your game is eligible to be upgraded to a next generation console and you go through with the upgrade from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, you will still be able to play the game on your PlayStation 4 using your original copy of the game. Note that for physical versions of the game, you’ll need to have the disc inserted in the tray to proceed."

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.If I read and understood it right.. the way it works is if u buy a ps4 game and it had the option to upgrade to the ps5 u can play the ps5 version only on ps4 but also play the ps4 version on ps4 or ps5 but the disk has to be inserted
