The difference is in the version of software that is provided with the scanner. The SE version comes with SilverFast SE Plus and the AI version comes with SilverFast AI Studio. You can learn about all of the differences on the SilverFast website. But in general, SE is easier to use as it doesn't have as many editing and image processing features as AI. AI comes with an IT8 calibration slide which is important if you have a color managed workflow. The hardware is identical.
