will this work with OptiPlex 980 desktop null

You will need to look at the specs for your machine, good place would be Dell.com/support. I used the stick I bought in a Optiplex 3020. worked fine. I have however ran across certain memory sticks that are just not compatible. Also need to look at the the Maximum memory supported per slot, some might only work with 4GB sticks. Sorry I can't be more specific
