Never tried to insert a flash drive on a Mac Air device. I would think you could format the flash drive, but I also think you can just insert the flash drive in the Mac Air to copy your file onto it.

just plug it in the USB port and the MacBook will take care of the rest.if your laptop only has a USB c port you will need a USB c To USBA adapter

You will need an Apple or after market USB to USB-C adapter. Zip drives are usually reformatted to Fat32, so no need to format for Apple or Windows.

I should just fit into one of your USB slots on your Mac Air. It won't work on a more recent Mac Book without an adapter as they've moved to a USB-C ports. If it needs formatting the Mac should pop up a window and lead you through the process. I think it will work directly out of the box without formatting, but I don't know that for a fact.

You should be able to insert it into the USB drive of your Macbook Air. These drives are typically pre-formatted.
