Hey Pere! The simple answer is that most Pokémon fans won't mind the increase in MSRP for an HD remake, even if it doesn't have any new content. Finding copies of the original D/P nowadays can be pretty expensive! Hopefully they add content from Platinum to make the game feel more fleshed out. Also keeping my hopes up that they'll fix up the art style a bit, as the character models and animations look rather unsettling to me! Perhaps make them similar proportionally to those from the Link's Awakening remake? I wish it was $40 like the original D/P pricing, though.

First of all, Nintendo is notorious for charging full price for their /all/ their 1st party titles, even remakes. I distinctly remember Fire Red being around the same price as Sapphire back in 2004, and Soul Silver being the same price as Diamond back in 2010, and that hasn't really changed. The only things that have changed are the inflation of the economy and the cost of the materials. I dunno about the production of the cats themselves, but I'm aware that the Switch System itself can be tough for them to find parts for since it shares a lot of the same parts that smartphones have, so it's possible that the cost of the games goes towards covering the cost of parts for new Nintendo Switches/Switch Lites .(Plus the possibility of accessing better materials, like when they released a model with better battery life and only really mentioned it in passing.) There is the option of Nintendo Selects that after a game sells well enough, it can get a reprint as a Nintendo Select and sell new for a discounted price. But, if you've been around long enough, you know that Pokemon games (despite being best-sellers), never are on this list of rereleased games, /specifically/ because Nintendo knows that Pokemon is a console seller. People will buy a console /specifically/ to play a Pokemon game, so there's no reason to discount it. As for the remake being horrible? I admit, I'm not a fan of the chibi-style myself, not because it looks bad, but because on the original platform (NDS), it was done out of necessity. They hadn't fully optimized the game for the system yet, and the NDS wasn't quite powerful enough to handle 3D models outside of cutscenes/backgrounds (even with the full optimization of Black2/White2). So while I get that their intention with this one is to stay true to the original style, it strikes me more as a slap in the face because they /kinda don't need to/ now, especially after going out of their way to try and break the mold with Sword/Shield. And for the last 3 remakes, they were remade in the same engine as the establishing Generation they were in (Gen 3/Fire Red, Gen 4/Heart Gold, Gen 6/Omega Ruby), so I think it set up an expectation for the Sinnoh remakes that disappointed a lot of people when it turned out not to be the case. However this brings us to the final factor here, and that is the fact that the financial decisions for the games are not made by GameFreak. They're made by The Pokemon Company, who commissions them to make the games. And TPC is strict with them on deadlines, because they know that having an annual title on the market keeps the money coming in. It's definitely come under criticism; of the billions of dollars that Pokemon makes, why can't they use it to hire more help or take more time on their games? But it seems that the majority of TPC's funding goes towards making merchandise, adopting a Disney-like tactic (for better or worse). So the decision to keep the chibi art style for this remake was probably a financially-driven decision to make it so the game could release as an annual title and be pushed in time for Christmas. (And also possibly to put some budget aside for the Arceus Legends game development, which I will be getting) Hope that sheds some light on things. I personally think I'll be skipping this one (I just replayed Platinum and had an exquisite time, so that itch is scratched), and you definitely don't have to buy it either, but I hope the people who do get it have a great time!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.People have been asking for this game since Red & Blue were re-made, every other remake of any game they released in the past has also had a $60 price tag. This is supposed to be very faithful to the original, so due to them wanting to keep faithful to the source material, they have made it in a chibi style. The characters are chibi in the overworld and become full size during battles, just as the first one did.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Gavin is dead wrong about past remakes costing $60. They all cost $40 except for LGPE, which was a notable downgrade from their original games (Red/Blue/Yellow). Don't let his PR talk convince you otherwise. These games are being sold for a 50% increase over the original price of Diamond/Pearl on DS, and they should not be. If anything, they should be cheaper than the original Diamond/Pearl given how they butchered the art style.
