• I have not actually weighed the tripod, but the weight in the specs is a typo. I would say it is probably 6.8 pounds, certainly not 68.8!!! F.Y.I.-As far as I know, there is no lead in the construction.

• I use this tripod for two different cameras. A DSLR and a Bridge camera. I have no safety issues with the individual weight of each camera. So, I really can't answer your question with correctness.
