“does the woofer have to be installed for this unit to work?.....ive hooked it up through the optical cable and im not getting any sound through the soundbar.....do i have to change the source on the soundbar to pick up the signal from the tv?”

Simplest reason for this would be TV volume is not turned off completely. If yours came with the woofer the woofer must be used.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I had to change the TV audio source to the optical setting. Also had to turn off my speakers on my TV as it created an echo. Once set up I added the subwoofer so appears the soundbar can operate independently.
