Since you will connect the sub to your receiver through the sub-out jack, the signal the sub receives is low level, not the amplified signal the remainder of the speakers see. The amplifier in the subwoofer amplifies the signal. I was unsure about this sub, having had a very nice one. It works and sounds great. I am very satisfied with it and it is economically priced. I also bought the Polk center channel and some Polk satellites for the front and rears. Sounds great.
