“i have and rca receiver and an advent subwoofer the receiver has plugs for 4 speakers but none for a subwoofer it has jacks for turntable and for cd player can i make it work”

If your subwoofer has "speaker level" inputs (most do) then yes you can. Essentially it would go: receiver-->subwoofer-->speakers. Then you would adjust the crossover and volume knobs on the subwoofer to blend the sound with your main speakers to your liking. Don't mix different speaker wire, run the same brand and thickness from the receiver to the subwoofer to the speakers.
