“As silly as a question as this is can these speakers be installed sideways? Will this cause any sound issues? My set up will make it difficult to put them on the side of the tv.”

Probably not. They won't fit between the studs. New construction has studs spaced at 16" (and you lose another 1.25" for the width of the stud) and these speakers require a hole over 19" for the long side. Some older construction has studs spaced farther apart, so to be sure you would have to check your particular location with a stud-finder.
