These headphones have two jacks: a 3.5mm jack for sound (output), and a 3.5mm jack for the mic (input). Since your laptop only has one "hole," it is most likely set for sound output. As a result, you will not be able to use these headphones where you want to speak or record sounds (i.e. Skype or other gaming voice over IP applications).

When you plug earbuds into your phone your voice gets picked up through an inline mic of some sort. These headphones have an inline mic with volume control so I can use then on my phone, tablet, PC, PS4.
