Yes, you will still need an xbox live gold or game pass ultimate subscription to access online gameplay.

Yes it does come with online play however the game has lots of bugs that rockstar does not seem to care about fixing. I tried numerous times to keep playing online which at first worked great. Once the game started coming out with updates, the bugs started happening. Animals were disappearing, people were riding invisible horses and it was hard to complete some missions due to the game not operating properly. This game would be awesome if the maker cared about fixing it.
