“Does this also have an internal battery in addition to being powered by the car battery? Because I would hate for my car battery to be dead if it has not been driven in a while and this cam is draining its power.”

It doesn't appear to have a battery or capacitor from what I can tell, I could be wrong, but to answer your question about draining the battery, you can set the Low voltage threshold to meet your needs. The settings are 0.0V, 11.25V, 11.5V, 11.75V or 12.0V and it will provide a read out of your current voltage.
