I was able to still use my camera while charging

No, the Ring Battery Doorbell was designed with a built-in battery that is not removable. To charge the device, simply remove it from the wall and plug it in to the mini USB cable for 6-8 hours. We have included the steps here for how to charge the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen.): If placed, remove the security screws at the base of the doorbell. Lift the doorbell up and away from the mounting bracket. Plug your micro-USB cable in to the port on the back of the device. When the battery is fully charged, the blue circular LED light on the front of the doorbell will be fully lit. Unplug the micro-USB cord and reattach the device to the mounting bracket using the security screws. Your doorbell is ready for use.
