Yes you do, it’s so cheap. It’s $30 for the year or $100 for more than 2 cameras. It can also be done monthly. If you don’t have the service you can’t see the events that have happened. 

Honestly it’s so worth it. We can be out we can see who comes to the door we can also answer as well.

No, you don't have to subscribe to their video plan to use it, but if you want to keep the videos long term, you'll need to subscribe. They're kept on the cloud and easily accessible from your phone or computer.

There is no subscription required for the Ring Video Door Bell to function as it should. The subscription is for if you want to archive video clips from motion detection and/or answered video rings from this and all of your other Ring Video products, if you own multiple (more than 5). Otherwise, the app will allow you to save a limited number of clips for your review for a predetermined amount of time.

After the trail subscription, no video is available except live feed. Subscription is at least $30/year. I would never have purchased had I known.
