“Why are there so few surge protection power strips with cable (coax) protection? I have a close cable repeater that blows up often. AC flash when it does. Is protecting the network cord really needed. Give example please.”

I don't specifically know the answer to your question, but I would recommend always running any type of cable/power cord through a surge protector whenever possible. Also, you could have your coax cable go through this surge protector, and then see with use if it fails again or not. If all else fails, using the surge protection is always recommended in my opinion.
