“Do you have to use Input 1 on the front of box? For my set up I would like to use only the inputs (2&3 laptop/desktop) on the rear of the box to visually look a little nicer on desk with all cords running in/out from the rear (hidden from sight).”

I have it the same way as you’re doing. I have the HDMI Switch 4-Port mounted on my wall with power I/O facing up. This way I have the chords running down and maneuvering in a odd way. Hope this helps!
