If you need a switch and are going to upgrade to a 4K tv then yes you need a 4K compatible switch as a 1080P switch will not transmit a 4K signal.

Hello, thank you very much for sharing this with us. I want to tell you that both switches would give you a very good quality. However, if you are planning on updating the TV to a 4K TV, the RF-G1501 4K-Switch Box would be the best option.
