“Our new Samsung only has 2 prong plug and will this Surge protector be as effective protecting a surge with only 2 prong as opposed to the traditional 3 prong and that would give one an extra ground and path to shunt the surge hopefully safely away?”

It will be fine. Surge protector takes the surge before it reach whatever you have it connected to. 2 or 3 prong does not matter.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The surge protector is a three prong plug, so it has the ground fault. PLUS...it's a surge protector. If a surge hits your wall outlet, it will pop that surge protector before it ever hits your TV. So it doesn't matter what you plug into the surge protector - two prong or three prong (as long as you haven't cut a ground prong off of that electrical line...) - That surge protector is designed to shut down the power so it protects your electronics. :)
