Do these mounts have to go in a stud? null

They dont have to go through a stud i have mines on drywall just use a 1/4 drill bit to make a hole then put does small plastics that are use with screws thats how i have mine .

Not really you just have to use screws mount that all ready comes with.

Yes, unless your speakers are very small and weigh very little. I use these for Sony bookshelf speakers and definitely need to be anchored into a stud.
