Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I am in the Los Angeles area and NO you do not need internet. Since the 1950's tv antennas are over-the-air signals. This is an inside antenna and for me the TV towers I face to the east. I can get over 100 English and foreign stations total. If you have an old "analogue TV" you need to add a digital converter box also sold at Best Buy. But a newer TV, only an antenna is necessary. We used to have an outside antenna in the third floor attic near a window back in the 50's. Things that affect the signal are buildings, trees, clouds on a rainy day AND an airplane flying by can affect the signal for a few seconds. But that said my bedroom antenna is facing an interior east wall - with a bathroom behind that and I still get great reception. When you hook up the antenna to the back of your TV with a coax cable ( you might need an extension of coax cable with a "joiner") you will go to settings/ look for TV antenna or ATSC/ and you will scan all channels. This will scan both analogue and digital signals. This will take 10 minutes. If you have to use a digital converter box you will scan through the box according to their instructions. ALSO the signal that goes through a TV antenna the signal is NOT COMPRESSED. That means your picture will be much CLEARER than going through a cable company box. If you move your antenna you will have to rescan again. Sometimes moving one or two feet away can make a big difference for the set up. Best choice is near a window. It is easier to do this than to write about it. You can do this yourself. If you need to find where the TV towers are just Google on your computer "where are my TV towers" and web sites will show up. You put in your zip code and not only where are the towers but some show what channels you can expect to see. You will be saving a ton of money not going to the cable companies. Good luck GAPeach
