Sounds like you’re overpowering the amplifier in the rocketfish unit. Try turning it down some, check speaker polarity, make sure no copper wires from the speakers are touching (like wires from positive side touching wires from the negative side), adjust the level output on the receiver itself (it may be too low and that’s why you had to turn the rocketfish way up), surround speakers might be blown. Those are my best guesses, hope it helps.
