It’s all about preference higher resolution, screen, and refresh rate is the main selling point slightly more powerful as well as other features it runs full windows 11 so any game you could download on your gaming PC is available
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The CPU and GPU are like two generations newer than steam deck, and it also has the ability to dump more power into it. It should be able to handle current GEN games better at least. not sure if we’re talking like twice as good or 50% better or what yet but it definitely will best it and be useable longer. The GPU is both bigger and a generation newer, the CPUs are three generations newer, and there’s twice as many. It’s also running real Windows, so you can install basically any game from anywhere, not just a subset of steam’s library The screen should be higher quality. Also, like a higher quality panel it sounds like (although I’d like to see confirmation from review sites that know what they’re talking about) which is really I think a bigger deal than it be in 1080 P or 120 Hz, because of the hardware involved I think aiming for 720 P and 30fps on new high end games is still a good idea on it, but it will have a lot more headroom then steam deck does. I’ve already seen some comparisons that are kind of ridiculous, because they’re running the game on this at more than 2.25x higher settings, and then declaring that “it’s about the sane! Maybe worse!” And it’s like yeeeeah, because you’re not setting games to the sane settings. Oh, and Windows let’s it use it’s raytracing hardware. I don’t know how useful that will be, but at least the GPU is bigger and newer and windows allows you to actually use all of its features that steam OS doesn’t, so this clearly has a much better shot of using ray tracing, then steam doctors, but it’s still a lower, and then like an Xbox series S (the lower end current GEN Xbox model) so it won’t surprise me at all if you can’t turn on ray, tracing, realistically, and all games, or may just prefer to have other settings higher, but at least it’s better suited to it then steam deck is
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Asus and Microsoft have partnered on this device so it is Windows and XBox tuned. If you play XBox Cloud, XBox Game Pass, or Windows games, this may be for you. Steam device is optimized for certain Steam games with lower graphics, resolution and framerates. Some games in Steam library are not yet supported. If you have already invested with games on Steam, you may be able to play these on Asus device as well with Steam client running on native Windows 11. It remains to be seen how long Asus device can run on battery with higher settings. It will also run quiter than Steam device, but user reviews are needed on actual performance.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I own both units and here is the skinny. Rog advantages: *ability to edit or customize the GPU settings *gameplay is fast and fluid *ability to easily connect thumb drives and external hard drives *full version of Windows 11 *easily connects to external monitors, keyboards, mice, gamepads Disadvantages: Speakers kind of suck..... Battery life is about 5-6 hours on low GPU settings controls are a bit twitchy sometimes *Steam Deck is having compatibility issues with many of the games on it's platform which is a real problem. *adding external storage other than the Micro SD expansion slot is complicated and tedious.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. All those things previously stated are correct. I would like to add that the steam deck, can be upgraded, portioned to run two or more OS (steamOS & windows 10/11), and valve has made it easily repairable buy the user. It also has haptic trackpads, and more back buttons. Asus has always been bad at software, valve is not. The Ally is awesome no doubt, I'll buy one, but i do think the steam deck and the attention to detail that valve has put into it are much better, but the ally will definitely have the hardware advantages. I suggest researching both, asking questions. Reddit is a good place to start, and youtube is another.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I've had both devices for atleast 6 months, If you're getting the Rog Ally get ready to bring a powerbank handy with you if you're gaming on the go. AAA title games with last you an hour , 2 hours TOPS. The main selling point for this is the performance mainly. Main downside for me was the lack of a trackpad of some sort. Sorting through windows with the thumbsticks is a MAJOR pain in the bum. If you plan to play a lot of major FPS titles ( honestly you shouldn't since you will get skill diffed by Mouse and keyboard players) I would suggest the ally since steamdeck has no workaround the use of anticheat on Steam OS.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Better quality and processing power
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Everything is better, in all fronts. The only thing that is lacking in comparison to the Steam Deck is the Track Pads. You'll get around 2 times more performance, a better screen and more games compatibility by paying just $50 more.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Looks like it will be way better. I owned the Steamdeck for a month and sold it, because it wouldn't run the games I wanted to play due to Linux and issues with anti cheat softwares. You had to jump through hoops to get it to do stuff that the Ally should do easily. Like Xbox game pass on the steam deck you have to create links and set it up, but it didn't really run on the deck it ran off the website. It would also artifact and glitch. Overall a trash gaming experience I would chalk up to a slight step above the Logitech G Cloud.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Compare and look at the specs yourself. Though we don't know what makes it better because no one has tried it on everyday use. It may run better but we don't know how it will do with Windows 11, which is known to be a performance hog, and it can affect the handheld gaming experience as i myself am hoping the battery life is around the same as the Steam Deck cause the ally has a more powerful processor and higher display which is great but this device was meant to be on the go and i don't want to use it for less than a hour of gaming before it needs a charge.
