“How much data (program content) does it buffer? Our connection is "variable" so it would be nice to start a program download 5 or 10 mins before starting to watch.”

I personally don't find any real buffering wait time, once I pick something to watch it will say "receiving" and show a loading line for maybe 5 seconds then it starts playing. For those channels that have commercials, it does this each time the series of commercials is over and the show resumes.
