• Apps? For the Roku it would be channels really, but yes. You just go to the roku.com and search and/or browse channels.

• I did. No sense paying for a piece of equipment that won't do what you want it to do. There are lots of channels available to Roku, many of which are free, but most of the best channels are available via a paid subscription to, for example, Sling or Amazon.
