I have had no issues on the cobtrol or in watching pro grams

No. It's a line of sight remote.

No it is ir so it needs to be aimed

No . . . the remote is line of sight. A new feature on some remotes and newer Roku's is that you can plug in headphones directly into the remote (or phone/device containing the app) and listen privately. This feature requires wifi.
