You can return the cable boxes and use Roku units instead, but any content that you were paying for through cable, you would now need to subscribe separately. For example, if your cable subscription includes the USA network....as long as you are still a Comcast subscriber, you can stream USA for free on the Roku platform. But cancel the cable, and your rights to stream many channels will disappear until you re-subscribe through other approaches. Roku does have some local content available, but the most reliable source for local channels would be to connect an inexpensive HDTV antenna to each television.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You need internet service to use Roku. You can get local channels live through Hulu. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There is an app (Xfinity) available in our area (Illinois Southwest Suburbs) that will allow you to watch comcast TV through streaming in this app. In the small print I had to read when I set this up, you can be credited for the box for the TV on which you use the app when you return the box. But it is best to check with comcast since this is in Beta test. You can tell if you look in the apps that you have available to setup. If you can use it, it should be there for you to download and use.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I kept the Comcast service and one dvr box, use this Roku to stream wirelessly to our other TVs (one Roku for each TV). With Comcast I can watch dvr recordings as well as stream live channels. You can use this without cable to watch Hulu, Netflix, and other pay for channels. As for local channels, you would have to get an HD interior antenna costing $10-$20 (not sure what channels you would get with one).
