Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No.In fact, I used Roku on my sons flat screen and it works great. This has the HDMI connection. Then, I used a Roku Express+ on my old boxy TV and now it's a smart TV. This uses the RCA connection. It's amazing!!

I am 77 years old. We bought the RokuPremier and I hooked it up to her tv. It was super easy. The Roku itself is super easy to use. When I showed her how easy it was to get Netflix after getting Roku, she was amazed and thrilled. She said it was the best $40 she ever spent,

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No you do not need a smart tv for the roku to work. Devices like the roku are there to add smart tv functionality to "dumb" tvs. In some cases the roku will out perform the smart functionality of a smart tv.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You don’t need a smart tv for Roku. A smart TV has apps that let you stream without ROKU. ROKU will give you better performance than a typical smart tv application. You do need a good WiFi connection to the internet to stream.
