Hi! Walrus , No. Roku does not charge a monthly service subscription or monthly equipment rental fees for owning a Roku® streaming player or Roku TV™; nor does Roku charge for creating a Roku account. However, you may be charged a monthly subscription for services, or channels, available on the Roku Channel Store, or partner content and services available with Premium Subscriptions on The Roku Channel. Note: You will not be charged by Roku for any purchase without your approval. You can also create a PIN to prevent unauthorized users in your home from purchasing channels from the Roku Channel Store, and adding Premium Subscriptions on The Roku Channel.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Nope! The only things you would have to pay for are any premium channels that charge a subscription fee (HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix, etc.). The Roku Channel actually has some pretty great content, and there are several other free channels included as well. Basically, if you pay for the unit and don't care about the premium channels, you're all set!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Roku Streaming bar would not allow me to access local broadcast television unless I wanted to pay $5 per month. For that reason, I returned it.
