• Hi, Mike! If you do not have an HDMI ARC port in your TV that is when the optical cable is needed. When using the optical cable you still will be needing an HDMI cord plugged into one of your HDMI ports in your TV for the picture as well as the optical cable for sound. Just make sure your input is set to the same HDMI number that your streambar is connected to.

• Usually on optical you just plug it in to the back of your TV and then the other device and it works by itself
