Hello Lulu! The Streambar allows for one of two connection options. One, connect the included HDMI from the Streambar to the ARC HDMI port on a TV or Projector. Two, if ARC HDMI Port is not available, a HDMI and Optical Cable connection is required. Please note, while the Roku Streambar does allow Bluetooth connections, such as a Smartphone, the Bluetooth pairing would have to be enabled via the Roku Streambar menu under Settings > Remotes and Devices > Pair Bluetooth device. Because the Bluetooth pairing has to be enabled through the Settings interface, it was not designed to be a standalone, portable Bluetooth speaker.
