• I replaced my firestick with the Roku. I have a total of 4. My Plasma was built in 2000 - so yes should work fine with your 2016 TV.

• As long as your TV has an HDMI input, it will work.

• Yes the Roku will work on older and newer TV

• I don't have a smart tv since a smart tv would essentially negate the need for a streaming stick, making it redundant. However, for me personally my Firestick seems to connect more stably to the wifi connection where I live. Other than that they both work very well.
