I setup my Samsung Note 8 as a remote ( not worth it for me ) and I seem to remember watching media on the phone, but I don't like watching anything on my phone so I never use that feature. I just plugged it into the back of my TV, and connected it to my router wirelessly . After YouTube dropped flash media, my Samsung TV could not see it, so I bought this. One time cost, no monthly fee ( other than the internet service provider you are already paying ). I'm guessing you need one for each TV. There might be another way to stream every media player in the house, but I just use it for one TV.
