Most tvs with hdmi input should work. If your older TV or hdmi cable does not have support to control TV power and volume through hdmi, you may have to use your TV remote to turn on TV or control volume. Some roku devices with infrared remotes will control your TV directly without having to have a newer hdmi protocol support. All this said, I have not found many tvs that a roku will not play on, or control TV. It has many TV codes and hdmi protocols on most roku versions to choose from. I even get roku remotes to work with weird brand tvs in my rv. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. All the Roku devices connect via HDMI. If you TV has an HDMI connect (which I would assume it does if it's 2012), then I would expect that any would work fine. Based on the age of the TV, I'd probably go with a cheaper model as the newer ones are designed for 4K streaming. A 2012 TV for sure won't have that. I have an old TV that uses a Roku stick. works fine for me.
