Q: QuestionI have a Toshiba 50L711U18 TV it is not a smart TV. I have Wi-Fi account with my cable carrier but no device/phone/computer. I can use a computer at the library to set up the Roku account. I have a xtra HDM1 cable. How do set it up if I buy Roku? thx

• A:Answer You just plug it in with hdmi but you will need a streaming service to get most of what you want. It comes with a lot of apps but some you will have to pay for. I am using Directtv now app and get almost everything I was paying Dish for and saving $70. A month. As long as you have fairly fast Wi-Fi it’ll work great.

• A:Answer Also note that you will need download speeds of at least 3mg for standard resolution i.e. 720 viewing. IF your looking for 1080, I would suggest no less than 5+mg assuming no other users/devices. Check with your internet provider for data caps .

Q: QuestionI have a onkyo sound system. I have tried several on these systems that say they are hdmi pass through. None of them support Dolby as they advertised. Just got stereo sound. Does this roku device support Dolby surround sound?

• A:Answer Yes the Roku ultra support Dolby Digital and DTS. The catch is the source you are streaming from must also support it within the stream. If you are plugging the Roku directly into the TV and from the TV out to the Onkyo that is likely why you are not getting Dolby Digital. Most televisions down sample to stereo via DTS or Dolby. You might want to check your settings on your television if this is how you have it setup. If you have it going directly into your receiver make sure the sound settings on your Roku are set to either Auto (selects audio stream for you) or Dolby Digital.

• A:Answer If your internet connection is set up on a router with a VPN using a US based server, it should work (except for Netflix, which actively blocks VPNs). Otherwise, it will be a toss up if it will work or not depending on the licensing of the channels you want to watch.

• A:Answer I use direct connection not wifi. Its alot faster. It will automatically set the internet part up for you. If you use wifi, you will need to enter your wifi password after you select your ssid. Roku itself doesnt cost you anything per month, its the added service that will. I have the wwe network, britbox, amazon prime video and music. There are alot of free services that you can add. There are free movie, tv and other ones.
