This integrated amplified has a built-in phono preamplifier. First, the most obvious question: have you plugged your turntable into the phono inputs? If you plug it into any of the other inputs, the signal won't go through the phono preamp. The phono preamp amplifies the low-level signal from your phono cartridge and also applies RIAA equalization (boosts lows and cuts highs). Another possibility is that you have a moving coil (MC) phono cartridge rather than a moving magnet (MM) type. MC has lower output than MM and requires a phono preamp suitable for MC cartridges. It's also possible you have a MM cartridge with lower than typical output. The input sensitivity of the A12's phono preamp is specified as 3 mV. Compare that to your cartridge's spec.
